The son of gospel singer, Ruth Hardin, a.k.a. “The Songbird of the South,” vocalist and percussionist, Dwight Hardin, has been on stage performing sense the age of seven. He has performed with/opened for such artists as, The Pointer Sisters, The Jacksons, Bootsy Collins, The Manhattans, B.T. Express, Eddie Floyd, The Original Eastwind and more. After a hiatus from performing professionally, Hardin is now picking up where he left off and is back singing and performing with various groups in Nashville, Knoxville, and the surrounding area, including tonight’s performance with Smooth Groove. Based in Blount County, Smooth Groove has been stirring up dance floors and entertaining East Tenneessee for over 14 years with classic R&B, soul, and funk. For nine of its ten year history, they have been the featured act at “Slimfest,” the biggest annual outdoor party in Blount County. They have also performed at the “Foothills Fall Festival” and on the main stage for the Alcoa City “Freedom Festival.” Smooth Groove is comprised of “DZ” Woods (drums), Mike Hamer (bass), “Buffy” Heaton (keyboards & vocals), “Badge” Heaton (trumpet & vocals), Larry Ervin (saxophones, percussion & vocals), and Leonard Ervin (guitars & vocals).
